Nestled between two major metropolitan areas of Austin and San Antonio, yet with its own distinct Texan flair, Comal County offers great places to call home. Let’s look at some of the great towns and cities this area offers when it’s time to hang up your spurs at the end of the day.
New Braunfels–
Home to great attractions and events, this city has a German flavor carried over from its founders still lingering today. Fun-filled events like Wurstfest and the popular waterpark Schlitterbahn, reflect that heritage. There are endless shopping opportunities in town, with a revitalized downtown area plus national chain stores within minutes of any location. New Braunfels homes for sale feature the best of both worlds. Some are in the middle of all the action, while others are tucked away on side-streets where serenity rules the day.
Schertz –
This city is perfect for those working in San Antonio but looking to be outside of all the hustle and bustle. Just a few miles from Randolph Air Force Base, it’s extremely popular with some of our nation’s bravest individuals. In that spirit, residents here celebrate our country with their own Jubilee, one of South Texas’ largest Independence Day celebrations, complete with carnival and barbeque cook-offs. Schertz features a distinct suburban feel with a strong sense of community and is great for those wanting a get-away from San Antonio while maintaining all conveniences of the city just a few minutes away. Its transitional feel from city life to the suburbs is also reflected in that it is one of the few cities in the area that is divided in three counties: Bexar (housing San Antonio), Guadalupe, and of course Comal.
Spring Branch–
Spring Branch features all the best of Texas country living. Along the Guadalupe River and just a few miles from Canyon Lake, it’s an attractive location for anyone wanting access to water sports, fishing and all that the great outdoors has to offer. It also features Guadalupe River State Park, great for canoeing and hiking. Despite its rural appeal, there are plenty of places to grab a bite to eat or pick up a gallon of milk before heading home. Compared to some of the larger cities in the area, there are fewer Spring Branch homes for sale, but that is part of the beauty of living here. In Spring Branch you can really feel like you are living out in the midst of nature…because you are.
Overall, it should be noted that Comal County residents enjoy an excellent cost of living and terrific schools, making it a great place to reside. In fact, Comal County has some of the best schools in the nation and Comal ISD has homes available for purchase near nationally-recognized “exemplary” schools, like Hoffman Lane Elementary in New Braunfels and Arlon Spey Elementary in Spring Branch. No matter what you are looking for in a home, you’ll find it in this unique Texas county.
